The short version
Ancestral Brain is a local desktop application. Your data stays on your machine. We never see your documents, notes, conversations, or anything your Brain indexes. The only information we collect is your email address if you sign up for the waitlist or purchase a license.
What we collect
- Waitlist sign-ups: Name (optional) and email address. Used only to notify you of launch and updates.
- License purchase: Name and email collected by our payment processor (Paddle or Lemon Squeezy). We receive your email to deliver your license key.
- Crash reports (optional): If you opt in, anonymous crash reports are sent. No file contents, no Brain data, no personal information.
What we do NOT collect
- Your documents, notes, or files
- Your AI conversations
- Your Brain index or profile
- Any content processed by the local AI model
- Your usage patterns, queries, or behavior inside the app
Local data
All Ancestral Brain data (Brain index, conversations, model files, library ZIM packs) is stored in ~/AncestralBrain/ on your machine. You own it. You can delete it at any time by deleting that folder.
Third-party services
The waitlist form on this website stores submissions to a JSON file on our hosting server. We use standard web hosting (Hostinger). No analytics tracking scripts are present on this site.
License purchases are processed by Paddle or Lemon Squeezy. Their privacy policies apply to payment data.
If you join our waitlist, we'll email you when Ancestral Brain launches and for major updates. We don't sell or share your email. You can unsubscribe at any time by replying to any email.
